A Hoopa resident was killed Monday in a single-car crash on the Yurok Reservation after the vehicle he was driving went off State Route 169, south of Notchko Flat Road, around 11 a.m.
For an unknown reason, according to the California Highway Patrol, the driver allowed the vehicle to go over the western end of the roadway while approaching a left curve, going down an embankment and overturning before hitting and coming to rest against a tree.
“Responding emergency medical personnel declared the driver of the Nissan deceased on the scene,” the CHP release states. “State Route 169 was closed periodically for approximately three and a half hours and has since been reopened. The use of alcohol and/or drug(s) is unknown at this time.”
The crash remains under investigation by CHP.
