Take Back CR

The "College in Revolt" article (April 1) could have applied to either of the institutions of higher education in Humboldt County. However, this time it is College of the Redwoods, where I am a student.

The last line of this article concludes that the Board of Trustees at the College of the Redwoods recently took a vote -- nine to nothing in support of President Marsee. The attainable solution should begin there. I reside in District 1 and Trustee Pruett will remain in office until 2013 unless we as a collective community decide to dismantle a board that does not "believe in sustaining multiple linkages among faculty, staff, students, administration and community" (CR Mission Statement, "Values").

How many people in the CR community or citizens of Humboldt County voted for a district trustee? Is now the time to move forward with impeachment proceedings for those elected officials that are not leading our College in a direction that benefit students? The condescending comments from Trustee Emad "everyone will kiss and make up" and President Marsee "dissidents are simply struggling with the many changes that CR is experiencing" are not how I expect elected trustees to lead.

It is time for all stakeholders to take action. Register to vote, run for trustee, vote for incumbents that will serve the educational needs of our community for future generations. We need to move forward -- however, I prefer it to be done with respect and consideration for all involved parties.

Contact your elected trustee and other legislators. Vote for incumbents that will serve the educational needs of our community for future generations.
