Campus and Community Dialogue on Race - Looking After Ghosts

Looking After Ghosts: Listening to the Silences of Humboldt's Chinese Expulsions in Many Moons. Charlie Moon’s mythology precedes him: his image and name live on as the “last Chinese Man of Humboldt County” after the purging of its Chinese community in 1885– and his descendants, known as the Moons, touch all local native tribes in the area. With the help of Yurok, Hupa and Chinese American residents – and framed by archival remnants – Many Moons investigates the ghostly marks left on a landscape repurposed for settlement. Screening will be followed by a discussion of the film with director Chisato Hughes.
