Hundreds of Humboldt County residents remain without power this morning after a storm carrying strong winds blew through the region last night.

One of the largest outages, according to the PG&E outage map, is in the Dow's Prairie neighborhoods behind the airport in McKinleyville, where residents are slated to see their lights turn back on around 8 p.m. tonight.

Dow's Prairie School is closed because of the outage, the Humboldt County Office of Education reports. Other schools in the McKinleyville area are open.

The county reports that PG&E has closed Dows Prairie Road at Arthur Lane due to downed power lines. There is no current estimate of when the road will reopen.

The National Weather Service reports that the Crescent City airport saw peak gusts at 70 mph hour while other peak winds include 58 mph in Scotia, 47 mph at the Fortuna Rohnerville Airport, 45 mph in Hoopa, 56 mph in Fairhaven and 52 at the Eureka/Arcata airport in McKinleyville.
