SECOND UPDATE: Fortuna Motel Barricade Situation Resolved

SECOND UPDATE: The Fortuna Police Department reports via Facebook that the situation has been resolved and the suspect is in custody.
PREVIOUS:
Fortuna Police are asking residents in the vicinity of the 500 block of South Fortuna Boulevard between 1st and 2nd Streets to shelter in place.
“The department is currently working in active police incident,” they posted on their Facebook page a little before 4 p.m. “We are currently negotiating with the subject who has barricaded himself in a room,” Sgt. Charles Ellecbrecht said.
UPDATE 5:12 p.m.: According to Sgt. Jason Kadle of the Fortuna Police, the situation began as a report of domestic violence earlier today at the motel. Fortuna Police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect but he refused to exit the room and barricaded himself inside.
“We believe he is the only one in the hotel room,” Kadle said. He added, “We have numerous people helping out with negotiations” in order to help the matter end peacefully.
