Eureka Police ID 19-Year-old Homicide Victim

The Eureka Police Department has identified the homicide victim found lying in a parking lot at the foot of Hilfiker in the early morning of July 4 as Eureka resident Hannah Elizabeth Hayhurst. She was 19.

According to a release, Hayhurst died of multiple stab wounds. A suspect in the case, Eureka resident Daniella Moore, 40, was arrested on suspicion of murder and torture “due to the significance of the injuries.”

Moore is being held on $1 million bail. Anyone who had contact with the victim in the days before she was found dead is asked to contact Detective Corrie Watson.

“This is an active investigation and further information will be released as appropriate.,” the EPD release states.

Following the notification of the next of kin, the victim of the July 4, 2019 homicide has been identified as Hannah Elizabeth Hayhurst, 19 of Eureka. An autopsy was completed on July 5, 2019. The cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds. Due to the significance of the injuries, the suspect Daniella Moore was also booked for torture. Anyone who came into contact with Hannah Hayhurst on July 2nd or 3rd or has related information is asked to call Detective Corrie Watson at 707-441-4032. This is an active investigation and further information will be released as appropriate.

On July 4, 2019 at approximately 12:50 a.m. Officers from the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to the Foot of Hilfiker parking lot for an unknown problem. Upon officer arrival they located a deceased female subject lying in the parking lot. Due to the totality of the circumstances the scene was secured and EPD Detectives and an Evidence Technician were call out to process the scene. The scene was processed and all evidence collected. Through the investigation EPD Detectives identified the suspect as Daniella Moore (40 years old of Eureka). Moore was arrested and booked in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for Homicide. Moore is being held on one-million-dollar bond. This is an ongoing investigation and more details may be released as the investigation progresses.
