Primary Voting Time! Here's How, Where and Why!

It's primary season and today is your day to vote! If you're not sure where your polling place is, click here to find it. If you haven't sent your mail-in ballot, you can also drop it off there or at the county elections office.

Many local elected positions are being filled by incumbents without competition, including Sheriff William Honsal, District Attorney Maggie Fleming and Assessor Mari Wilson, although there is always the option to write in an alternative candidate. For elected positions, there has been a lot of chatter and coverage of many of the races, a breakdown of which you can find below.

First, Humboldt's first contested judgeship in decades, with attorneys Lathe Gill and Lawrence Killoran vying to win the seat of retiring Judge Dale Reinholtsen. Second, a surprisingly dynamic race for the seat of auditor-controller, with current Department of Health and Human Services accountant Michael Lorig taking on bureaucratic newcomer and current Assistant Auditor-Controller Karen Paz Domiguez for the county's top fiscal job. Finally, the fight for the Fourth and Fifth Districts. In the north part of the county, incumbent Fifth District Supervisor Ryan Sundberg is fending off challenger Steve Madrone. For a Q&A on that race, click here.
