Sorry, Hops in Humboldt fans. This year you’ll have to sip your suds while you SIP. In a press release sent out Sunday, Hops organizers announced that the 2020 event will not be happening this year.

“As much as the Hops in Humboldt committee would like to continue on our yearly tradition, we have come to the determination that Hops 2020 will be canceled,” the release states.

No strolling around in the Fortuna sunshine with your buds imbibing IPAs and listening to music. All because 2020 told the world, “hold my beer.” And we’re not happy about that. The event is an important one. It’s not only a fun day for beer lovers, it’s also a community lifeline that gives proceeds back to schools, youth groups, senior services, drug and alcohol prevention and community projects through a multitude of grants.

"To date over three quarters of a million dollars in grants have been awarded to schools, youth groups, senior services, drug and alcohol prevention and community projects. Several years ago we set up a scholarship fund through the Humboldt Area Foundation where we award three students every year a total of $3,000 to help further their education. We feel it is so important to support our local kids and will continue to offer our scholarships again this year."

The folks at Hops in Humboldt know the flow must go on and are looking forward to seeing everyone in 2021.

Hops in Humboldt 2020

For the last 17 years Hops in Humboldt has been bringing some of the best breweries in the country to Humboldt county for all types of thirsty micro-brew lovers! Hops has been the place to taste the best brews of the summer and get to know the amazing stories of the hardworking brewers behind their labels. For others it’s a place to sip and discover something different, fall in love with a new flavor and meet new friends. With good vibes, friendly volunteers and tasty suds, Hops is the perfect festival to end the warm days of summer.

This year with the COVID-19 pandemic taking center stage in the world almost all of our favorite events have been canceled or reimagined into a virtual experience. As much as the Hops in Humboldt committee would like to continue on our yearly tradition, we have come to the determination that Hops 2020 will be canceled.

Over the last 17 years Hops in Humboldt has been happy to be able to support worthy community projects and help strengthen the business community by filling hotel rooms and spending most of our large event budget with local businesses.

Hops has been around since 2003 and each year the events annual Micro-Brew Festival proceeds are given back to local groups who fall under our five grant categories. To date over three quarters of a million dollars in grants have been awarded to schools, youth groups, senior services, drug and alcohol prevention and community projects.

Several years ago we set up a scholarship fund through the Humboldt Area Foundation where we award 3 students every year a total of $3,000 to help further their education. We feel it is so important to support our local kids and will continue to offer our scholarships again this year.

Hops in Humboldt is a one day, five hour event that takes a whole year to plan! The Hops Crew is a dedicated group of community leaders who work hard and have a passion to make change in our community. They do it so that we can present small grants to carry out the amazing work being done locally by non-profits.

Many people don’t realize that the same committee of leaders also organize the Fortuna Fireworks Festival! It’s just one more way that Hops contributes to the Fortuna community!

We are hopeful that this coming year will bring the

world the knowledge we need to get COVID-19 under control and all of us back to the local events love. We are looking forward to Hops in Humboldt 2021 and hope to see you there, CHEERS!
